Fujian Provincial Bureau of Coal Geology

     Fujian Provincial Bureau of Coal Geology (hereinafter called the Bureau) was established in 1975, the deputy departmental level public institution, under the jurisdiction of Department of Land and Resources. The primary duties of the Bureau are as follows: to organize mineral exploration and development activities in accordance with relevant laws, regulations and policies; to manage subsidiary units, in charge of state-owned assets and ensure its preservation and appreciation; to be responsible for directing Party building and spiritual civilization construction of the Bureau and subsidiary units; to perform other duties assigned by Provincial Committee and Government. The Bureau has 2603 staff and workers. There are 6 institutional units under management of the Bureau, namely, The 121 Geology Team, The 196 Geology Team, The 197 Geology Team, Provincial Coalfield Geological Exploration Institute, Provincial Coalfield Geological Surveying and Mapping Institute, Provincial Coalfield Geology Geotechnical Testing Center(Provincial Coalfield Geophysical Prospecting Team). There are other 20 economic entities including Dong Chen Municipal Engineering Co., Ltd., Dong Chen Geotechnical Foundation Engineering Company, Xiamen Xin Dong Chen Investment and Development Co., Ltd., Wuyi Mountain Dong Chen Estate Co., Ltd. The subsidiary units are respectively located in Fuzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou, Longyan and Shaxian and other places.
    By the end of 2009, the Bureau has completed a total amount of resources to more than 1.3 million meters of drilling; has submitted nearly 166 geological reports; has proven more than 1.19 billion tons of coal reserves of Fujian in total; has submitted a number of metal and non-metal mineral sources such as iron ore, lead-zinc ore, gold ore, silver ore, oil shale, basalt, limestone etc. It has completed project of all kinds scientific research of country, province in all 90 multinomial, there are 19 provincial and ministerial level science and technology progress awards won. Applying décollement structures and nappe structure theories, Geologists of the Bureau negated "only stars, no moon", the error argument, making important contributions to realizing self-sufficient and superabundant of anthracite in Fujian. The 121 Geology Team, The 196 Geology Team, is "National Geological Prospecting Meritorious unit".
    In recent years, The Bureau thoroughly implements the scientific concept of development, around the strategic deployment of promoting construction of the economic zone on the West Side of the Straits made by Provincial Committee and Government, in accordance with the working principles of "serving the construction on west side of strait, basing on geological prospecting, expanding space of contribution, realizing the Development of Science", and provides a strong support of mineral resources and geological technique for construction of the economic zone on the West Side of the Straits. While completing the tasks of exploration and scientific research assigned by National and provincial organizations, the Bureau readjusted the industrial structure and the team structure by relying on the advantage of industry adequately, has basically been formed the development pattern which takes geological prospecting as main business, engineering investigation, engineering geology, geological hazards, geotechnical engineering, municipal engineering, mapping, mining, machinery as sub business. The synthesis economic indicators over the years have been ranked the advanced level, showing a sound momentum of Scientific Development, known as "the Pearl of the Coal Exploration in the South".
